One of Cairo's Most Impressive Views!
穆罕默德‧阿里清真寺的点评
点评：The Mosque of Muhammad Ali, sitting high inside the Cairo Citadel, is one of those buildings that immediately grabs your attention.
Often referred to as the Alabaster Mosque, it was built in the 19th century and is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Cairo. Its enormous domes, towering minarets and Ottoman-inspired architecture make it very different in appearance from many of the older mosques you'll find elsewhere in the city.
Stepping inside, the scale is just as impressive. The huge central dome, ornate interior and rows of chandeliers create a really dramatic space, and it's easy to see why this has become one of Cairo's most photographed mosques.
But for us, one of the biggest highlights was actually outside the mosque. Because the Citadel sits on elevated ground, you get fantastic panoramic views across Cairo from here. On a clear day, you can see the city stretching out in almost every direction, with the skyline extending far into the distance.
The mosque can get busy, particularly with tour groups, so don't expect to have the place completely to yourself. It's also important to dress appropriately, as this is an active religious site.
We'd recommend combining a visit with the other sights within the Cairo Citadel, rather than travelling here just for the mosque. There's enough history and architecture around the complex to make it a worthwhile part of a wider day exploring Cairo.
Our verdict: A spectacular mosque with an equally impressive setting. The architecture is beautiful, but the combination of the mosque itself and those sweeping views across Cairo makes this one of the more memorable stops on an Islamic Cairo itinerary.
