点评:Perhaps the highlight of this museum is its building - timber, farmhouse style, and spacious. In line with the Founder's philosophy, displays are uncluttered and uninformative. In his day, items would have been shown outside cases, with the possibility of handling; the display methodology has not been updated in line with the move to showcases.
Most of the museum is currently filled with European antiques as part of a recent donation. I admired the Ainu objects - definite Pacific Northwest vibes - and otherwise most enjoyed the shop, full of well-chosen items (such as plant wax candles) not easily found elsewhere.
The Museum is worth a visit if combined with the adjacent Maeda Mansion, and (for those who enjoy the out-of-the-way) the Komaba Museum in a quirky 1920s building on the nearby university campus. As a group these work as a half-day break from busy central Tokyo. Note there are few eateries nearby, but an excellent lunch is served in the Faculty Club (open to all) near the Komaba Museum.
