Read before you go and make an informed decision

点评：Nice, picturesque place but yet another example that Santa Marta’s government has completely abandoned this and other natural beauties that they could exploit professionally and sustainably.
If you decide to go, be prepared to:
1. Go through some Santa Marta slums.
2. See a lot of dirt and witness the rubbish everywhere as a consequence of poor waste management (actually, this is a city-wide problem)
3. Occasionally, there will be foul smelling waste water spills on the streets, another consequence of poor sewage management in the city.
4. Go through 3km of something that used to be a road circa 30 years ago and now is a dirty path to get to the entrance.
5. Pay insurance, parking and discriminatory fees if you were not born in Colombia.
6. Be (gently) harassed as soon as you arrive by not less than 10 people selling you the electric car transportation, the tent, the lunch, the beverage, the juices, the massage, the ice cream, etc, etc., and you responding “No, gracias” with a disgusted, friendly smile.
If you are already here, go and do not pay atrention to this and enjoy yourself. But if you get easily disturbed by any of the items above, despite being very unlikely that you will have a problem, then stay in your resort or find another activity. Last time I came here was 34 years ago and I can certify that the place has utterly deteriorated (including the entire region, the city and even the famous Tayrona Park). Hopefully a visionary politician will understand that tourists have plenty of options and they ACTUALLY READ reviews. As it is today, very sadly, we will never come back to this place nor we would ever recommend you to spend your hardly-earned money in this place. Go to Cartagena, or Curaçao, or Aruba or Bonaire instead.
