点评:A short stay here was a recommendation of our guidebook as a contrast to Copenhagen. We based ourselves in Aeroskobing which is where the ferry from Svendborg docks. Aeroskobing has the reputation as the best preserved historic village in the country and you can see why. From the moment you walk off the dockside, you feel that you are transported into a different century. All the houses mainly from the 18th century are painted in beautiful pastel colours and all perfectly maintained. There are a couple of much older late 17th century houses that survived a later fire in the village. No traffic is allowed in the centre. It is primarily still a residential area but there are a number of independent cafes and shops to cater for the tourists who travel to the island.
We stayed at Hotel Pa Torvet in the main square, a delightful family-owned hotel. A mid afternoon arrival and a mid afternoon departure the following day allows sufficient time to gain a flavour of the island. It gives sufficient time to wander around the main village the afternoon you arrive. An excellent meal was enjoyed at nearby Mumm restaurant in the evening.
The following day a bicycle trip around the island is strongly recommended. On the advice of the hotel proprietor we used Aldelen guesthouse who provide a cycle rental service. Adam the owner was excellent in helping to plan a mainly flat route around parts of the island well away from most traffic (not that there is a great deal) and we spent an enjoyable three hours gently pedalling around the island on quiet roads and tracks with visits to the 13th century Breginge Kirke and the wild coast at Voderup Klint. A late lunch near the dockside and a return ferry completed our short visit.
It is perfectly possible to reach the island solely by public transport and the views along the way of rural Denmark are most rewarding. We took the train from Copenhagen to Nyborg (1½ hours) then a bus to Svendborg for an hour (buses are immediately outside the station), then the ferry (less than 10 minutes’ walk from the station) to Aeroskobing (1 hour 15 minutes). We returned by train to Odense which has a direct connection from Svendborg.
