点评:Korcula, is the largest island in the archipelago and home to a medieval town. The 22-mile-long island has a population of around 16,000, with 3,000 in the port town itself. Needless to say, the island is a tourist town, but there were not an overabundant of such today. There are also a number of sail boats (some VERY BIG with three masts, so I guess I need to call those SHIPS).
The water along the shore is very clear, but any beach area is covered with small pebbles (verses sand). They say this is typical of the whole coast.
Into the heart of historic Korcula town, which, among other things, has been the center of proud music and dance traditions such as the warrior-like Moreska sword dancers (no we did not see any today).
By going into the convoluted streets of the old town, the strong winds of the BUDDA were moderated and disappeared.
Rumor has it that this location was the birthplace of Marco Polo.
We visited a local 16 century palace of the bishop, that is now a museum. FYI back long ago the bishop was also the mayor / political leader authority of the Town = Lots of FAMILY politics here!
We were told this town for centuries was ruled by Venice, and if you have watched the Netflix series “The Borges”, you may have picked up on how the church’s Bishop ran things (sometimes fairly / sometimes “not so fairly”)
