点评：This was a highlight of my Amersfoort visit.
What a wonderfully evocative site. It's so much more personal than statues and paintings. You're actually up close to where someone slept, when they were at their most relaxed and vulnerable.
You can look but not touch, of course. So you can peer into the bed boxes to see where they shut themselves in for sleep. I was surprised to note that I didn't see any graffiti in ay of the bed boxes.
Outside the bed boxes was less private: a hard chair and table, a lockable trunk. A tiny stove for warmth. But nothing for privacy, unless you retreated back into your bed box.
I can see how for a certain kind of personality, life at the Mannenzaal could be appealing. You might have no family and no money, but you would find a community in Mannenzall, and know you would be taken care of until the end of your days.
The volunteers were interested and interesting.
Be sure to climb the ancient spiral staircase up to the balcony, so you can gain a better appreciation of the architecture of the building.
