点评:We enjoyed a small group tour of the massive Teatro Massimo in Palermo on the second leg of a five week visit to Sicily in April 2026. Constructed in the late 19th century and described as the largest opera house in Italy and one of the largest in Europe, it is located a short distance from Palazzo del Poeta where we were staying; we walked over on our first afternoon in Palermo and within a few minutes had purchased reasonably priced tickets and were touring the theatre with an English speaking guide. The multi-tiered theatre is enormous and exudes the grandeur of a bygone era. Our informative guide gave us historical context, patiently answered our questions and led us through not only the main theatre but also the circular Pompeian Hall (the echo room) and other interesting parts of the building. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience and our only regret was that there were no performances scheduled during our eight day stay in Palermo.
