点评：One of the most impressive attractions of Rothenburg are the fully intact medieval city wall that encircles the Old Town. The defensive city wall structure was constructed during the 12th and 13th centuries and includes 42 towers and 6 gateway entrances. The wall is around 4km in length and there are numerous staircase entrances for those interested in accessing for a walk along various sections of the entire wall.
Note: the covered walkway along the wall is roughly 1.8 metres which means taller visitors may need to crouch at times during the walk. Otherwise, you may accidentally bump your head.
From the elevated positions along the wall, you are treated to lovely views of the cobblestone streets lined half-timbered houses. It is fairly easy to make out St. George's Church and its towers as well as the tower of Town Hall at marktplatz. You can also see numerous other towers dotting the wall in front and behind you.
In the end, Stadtmauer is a enjoyable feature of visits to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Even if you don't have time to walk the full wall, because of the many access points, it is fairly convenient to find a spot to enter and walk a short bit for a brief experience. It makes for a memorable part of visits to this lovely medieval town in southern Germany.
