Excellent museum of Arran life, history and geology.

点评：What an absolute gem of a museum. On a rainy day just off the ferry this was our first stop on Arran. Friendly and engaging staff with a quick introduction before we stared our tour.
The museum founded in 1976 by a group of local people to preserve the history and past life on the island is a little gem.
The main building was originally a school and houses a great little café. The buildings are all setup to reflect life as it was during the history of Arran each being a separate building or room. These were originally a farmhouse, croft, milking room, laundry, stable and many more. Each is set up to reflect artifacts from the past that were in daily use by the island community.
What was amazing as well was that a lot of the exhibits we could remember as children. There were items that our Greatgrand parents, Grandmothers and mothers used around the home or farm. Even the old bus ticket machines and telephones, it was really awesome. The school and Post Office similar to what we remembered from our home villages. The smithy also brought back memories of walking home from school and watching the Blacksmith shoeing horses. In a way you also felt a part.
There are excellent exhibits on the archaeology of the island dating from Neolithic to present day. A geology museum which reflects the role Arran played in the development of this science with the "father of modern Geology" James Hutton as he looked at the geology of the island.
A treasure trove of history not to be missed if you are on Arran well worth an hour or two to visit. Admission is not expensive and car parking is free. Run by volunteers who are eager to help or assist with information about the island, this is an excellent advertisement for Arran.
