Narvik Museum的点评
点评：I travelled to Narvik because of an interest in its WW2 history and to visit their excellent war museum there.
Visiting the Heritage museum was a natural extension to that visit as the museum details the building and construction of the Ofoten railway so that iron ore could be conveyed from Kiruna to the ice free port at Narvik.
The reason why Germany invaded the neutral country of Norway was to acquire and control the acquistion of that vital war material.
Like all railway constructions in harsh terrains globally this one was little different. Terrible working conditions, fatalities, but also toughness, resilience, and songs and ballads to keep their spirits up.
A special word of appreciation to the young man who was on reception when I arrived.
He gave me a lot of information about how the local university is engaging in scientific research on how to limit damage to the rails and tracks as the modern trains continue their unceasing journeys of transporting their heavy loads down to Narvik port.
Highly recommended.
