Architecturally stunning buildings & site hold promise, but...
Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts的点评
点评:Two massive, architecturally stunning buildings on a masterfully re-claimed site adjacent to the Lausanne train-station promise the visitor a world-class art experience, but IMHO don't deliver. I was there for the uneven 'Gen-Z' photography exhibition, which is maddeningly hung in a needlessly crowed maze of tight spaces - bizarre, given the huge volume of the building - and presenting too many artists, thus giving short shrift to all of them. The main building houses a rather thin permanent collection (given the opulence of these buildings) along with a huge exposition (semi-/permanent?) of the Swiss artist Félix Vallotton which I found exhausting - one slogs through many forgettable, mediocre paintings to get to a few real masterpieces; the latter include his groundbreaking woodblock printing, which is indeed stunning. For such buildings this exhibit should've been edited to 1/2 of one floor... Based on this visit, I simply wouldn't bother again. Or to put it another way, I'm about 1-1/2 hours away from Fondation Beyeler, while Lausanne is about 2-1/2 hours away. I would still gladly make the trip to Beyeler several times a year were their locations reversed. Hopefully things will improve, the buildings and the site deserve more.
