Backstreet Cultural Museum的点评
点评：I had one extra day in NOLA due to a flight delay. My husband booked the Melrose Mansion for me. My Uber driver told me that I was actually in Treme, which delighted me as I always wanted to come to this part of the city. Told me to get lunch at Lil Dizzy's (highly recommend) then I could walk to the musuem - which I did and you should, too.
German guy next to me told me I had to go the this place, so that solidified it. A rainy Wednesday in August, so I was the only one there. I wish I knew the name of the staff member (probably a volunteer) who was there. She spent about an hour and a half with me answering my questions.
"Mardi Gras Indian" - not actually the case as African Americans were not allowed to participate. Actually Carnival Indians. And there are all sorts of different clubs - the Indians, the Pleasure Clubs, the Baby Dolls and then the wonderfully creepy early morning Nortside Skull and Bones Club.
Unlike the Mardi Gras parades, you never really know where these groups will parade, but if you join, you'll get updates - and after going to this Museum, you'll want to see this.
Each Indian hand beads his (always his) costume every year. You read that right - you make a new costume EVERY year.
I considered myself to have fairly decent knowledge of NOLA history, but this was 100% a lesson for me. Besides the fact that the costumes really are handmade works of art.
This museum was a labor of love, so please visit and join or donate if you can. This is an absolute gem. If you love the history, culture and music of NOLA, it should go to the top of your list. (I loved the WWII Musuem, too, but this is MUCH, MUCH more authentic.)

每位印第安男子每年都会亲手为自己制作一套服饰。没听错——他们每年都要制作一套新服饰。
我原以为自己对新奥尔良的历史相当了解，但这次真的让我学到了很多新知识。更不用说那些服饰本身简直就是手工打造的艺术品了。
这家博物馆是创作者倾尽心血打造的成果啊。所以，如果可以的话，请前往参观、加入会员或慷慨捐助吧。这里真是个不可多得的宝地。如果你热爱新奥尔良的历史、文化和音乐，这里绝对应该列入你的必游清单。（我也很喜欢二战博物馆，但这里要真实得多、有趣得多。）
