As a birthday treat to myself, I booked a five-day stay at Double R to indulge my love of riding and my spirit of adventure. Double R fulfilled my cowgirl dreams in every possible way. Not only did we ride daily (weather permitting), but because Double R is first and foremost a working ranch, I was able to truly immerse myself in the ranch lifestyle.
This included nutritious, home-style meals, a beautiful casita overlooking the Arizona horizon, access to the many distinct personalities of their incredible horses, and hands-on instruction in different aspects of ranch life. All of this was delivered with warmth, wit, and humor by the wonderful staff at Double R.
As a first-time solo traveler, I was a little nervous, but from the moment I left the airport, Roy made sure I was completely taken care of. The staff went above and beyond in every way — they even surprised me with a birthday cake, which was such a thoughtful and memorable touch.
Will and Renee were our riding guides, and they made every ride a unique and enjoyable adventure, thoughtfully matching horses to my skill level. When I insisted on challenging myself with a higher-skill horse, Will patiently taught me how to handle and work through the challenge. That experience alone boosted my confidence in the saddle tenfold.
