One of the Premier Destinations on the South Rim - A Must See
Grand Canyon Desert View Watchtower的点评
点评：One of the best things about Grand Canyon is to view it from many different places as it changes so much based on perspective. This was my 4th visit to Grand Canyon and second to Desert View Watchtower. Desert View Watchtower is one of my favorite views because you get to view the canyon in a bend so there are great views looking down the canyon to the north and west. For me if you are visiting the South Rim, there are serval great viewpoints, but there are two "Must Sees", Grand Canyon Village anywhere between Mather and Hopi Points and Desert View Watchtower.
This past spring my wife and I took 7 other couples, most of whom had never seen it, to the Grand Canyon. We stopped here after our hike to Ooh Aah Point as we were leaving the National Park on our way to Page. We stopped to use the restrooms here and to experience the canyon here, which is one of my favorite views. This time the tower was open to visitors as opposed to my last visit in 2021 during Covid; however, we did not have enough time.
Instead, we took in the views of the Eastern Rim from the viewing platform just outside the tower. There are great views here with the best looking straight ahead north down the middle of the canyon upriver. Yes, here due to the angle, you get great views of the river as it twists into the canyon. From here the group split, and I took a portion to a beautiful viewing spot just SE of the tower. You get great views up the canyon, but the secret is this has the pictures of the Watchtower itself that was designed by Mary Coulter, architect of many great places in the park as an employee of the Fred Harvey Company. Before leaving, I took the group to another great viewing spot just west of the tower where you can look west down the Grand Canyon towards both the South and North Rim Villages.
This is one of the best views of the canyon in the park, and many who just visit the Village totally miss it. Whether you extend your visit to another destination like Page or you simply travel to and from Flagstaff, be sure you make a loop and go out a different direction than you entered. If you do you are rewarded with an incredible experience visiting Desert View Watchtower along that loop, just be sure to stop here. While it is a popular destination, it has a large parking lot with sufficient room.

于是，我们就在塔楼外的观景台上欣赏东侧的景色。这里的视野极佳，尤其是正前方——向北望去，可以一览峡谷中段的景致。由于角度合适，在这里还能清晰地看到河流蜿蜒流入峡谷的模样。之后，我们一行人便分头行动了。我带了一部分资料去到塔楼东南方的一个绝佳观景点。从那里可以俯瞰整个峡谷的壮丽景色。不过最特别的是，这些资料里还有由玛丽·库尔特设计的瞭望塔的照片——作为弗雷德·哈维公司的员工，玛丽·库尔特还设计了公园里的许多重要建筑。离开前，我又带大家前往塔楼西边的另一个绝佳观景点，从那里可以向西眺望大峡谷，看到南缘村和北缘村。这里是公园内观赏峡谷的最佳地点之一，不过很多只到访了村庄的游客却完全错过了它。无论你是打算前往佩奇等其他景点，还是只是往返于弗拉格斯塔夫，都一定要沿着环形路线行进，从与来时相反的方向离开。这样你就能在途中体验到参观沙漠观景塔的绝佳乐趣，不过一定要在此处稍作停留哦。虽然这里是个热门景点……它有一个宽敞且空间充足的停车场。
