点评:Visited on a Saturday with my 10 year old son. I had checked online and could see “Fred” the steam loco was running that day it is a former MOD 060 saddle tank currently in a maroon livery. Kids are £1 until 31st August (excluding event days) and it does say to book online as on the day £1 tickets have limited availability. The ticket gives you “the freedom of the line” which means you can travel up and down as many times as you like on the day. We parked at Shackerstone where parking is free. At the side of the car park is the volunteer railway’s siding and so engines and coaches etc undergoing maintenance and repair can be viewed as would be expected of any smaller volunteer run heritage railway (where else would they store such items). The station building is lovely and houses a museum stuffed to the rafters which is great and a cafe which serves some hot food (bacon rolls recommended) with a smile. On the opposite platform there is a small shop with souvenirs and both new and used model railway items. We opted for a corridor coach but there is also an open plan coach and a “grill” style coach with dining style seating (food served on certain event days on this coach). A round trip takes about an hour and its a lovely slow paced ramble through the country side. In total we had 3 trips up and down the line that day which for £16 for us both is incredible value this day and age. The Battlefield Line is a literal step back in time and we enjoyed our visit greatly.
