点评:We were originally supposed to be in Kaua‘i for my husband’s birthday and the dinner sunset sail seemed like the perfect trip to share with my parents who were also celebrating their 55th anniversary. My family lived on Maui and my dad was a boat captain for many years, so we’re a little picky about boat companies, and having gone on other trips with them, I know that Capt. Andy’s is an established company with top-notch service.
The booking was easy and I was able to speak with someone who assured me that I could talk to a crew member upon boarding to make sure that my parents (who have some limited mobility) could have a table to eat at when dinner was served. I knew that while there ARE tables, there aren’t enough for all passengers and some people would be eating in their laps. My husband and I could manage that, but when the meal includes steak, a table is certainly helpful.
When we boarded, I asked the captain about securing a table and he basically said there’s no special treatment and tables are first come first serve. That said, my parents wound up sitting in the cabin for most of the trip to make sure they had at least part of a table for dinner because all of the tables in the back were already being held down by other passengers who were probably thinking the same thing. I get that the limited tables should be shared, but then I would’ve appreciated the first come first serve answer on the phone. I also would’ve been happy to pay a small surcharge to ensure that my parents had a table (at least for the dining hour) and I as a passenger would’ve been happy to move to ensure that elderly passengers could eat at a table if that had been facilitated by the crew.
Overall, I thought the dinner was nice and the crew was really kind (shoutout to Dida). As someone who has also worked on boats in Hawai‘i (dinner cruises even), I appreciated how attentive they were, especially with the older crowd that seemed to be onboard that day.
The captain was knowledgeable and even though I thought there was a bit too much talk track in the first half, that may just be because it was a lot of info that I knew but that I’m sure first-time visitors would appreciate.
I do think they might offer a couple of canned cocktails for a little more variety but that’s a very minor point. A hose or wet wipes to clean feet before getting our shoes back on would be another nice uplevel.
I still recommend this if you’re looking for a scenic dinner while on Kaua’i.
