点评：The Briscoe is proof that a museum doesn't need to be huge to be excellent. Housed in San Antonio's beautifully restored 1930s former public library — an Art Deco gem in its own right — it's three floors of Western art and history that you can genuinely absorb in one visit, which I'd argue beats a sprawling institution you leave exhausted.
The collection punches far above the building's size: Pancho Villa's saddle, Santa Anna's sword, and an intricate scale model of the Alamo that's worth ten minutes on its own before you walk the real thing a few blocks away. The painting and sculpture galleries balance the classic Remington-and-Russell school with contemporary Western and Native American artists, so it never feels like a nostalgia exercise. Don't skip the McNutt Sculpture Garden out back — a quiet courtyard on the River Walk that most visitors miss, and one of the most peaceful spots in downtown San Antonio.
Practical notes: an hour to ninety minutes is right for most visitors; it sits on a calm stretch of the River Walk away from the crowds; and the building stays blissfully cool in summer, which makes it a perfect midday stop between outdoor stretches.
