Once in a lifetime visit
米特奥拉修道院的点评
点评：It is truly hard to believe such a place exists and the fortitude to build upon these rock formations is unfathomable. There were 24 at one time and there are only 6 that still exist. Just the geography itself makes this place amazing to visit. Then to build monasteries on top of these just defies the imagination. They were built to be isolated from the chaos of the world and has built in geographical safety from religious persecution.
The downside is the distance from Athens. We decided to take a tour since the logistics make visiting here more complicated. By bus it was 4 hours each way so it is truly an all day time commitment. It is easier to let the experts do the planning.
Suggestions: Make sure you do your research ahead of time. There is a nominal charge of 5 € per person and it only payable in cash. Secondly there is a dress code for both men and women. Big one was no shorts below a certain length for men. No doubt a bigger issue during the heat of summer but not as much of an issue for anyone in November. Skirts had to be worn for women and not pants. There are skirts that you can borrow but a finite amount were available. Again I suspect not an issue during low season but potentially one during the summer. It is just better to prepare rather than potentially miss one of the monasteries which would be a disaster since the best views are from there. The monasteries are very nice but as one can imagine, the amount of work to brings building material etc up a rock facade made practically more important that decorative items. The views are spectacular and a once in a lifetime escape.
