CF's delightful week with Ocean Frontiers

点评：Having dived with Ocean Frontiers for 2 days in 1997, then 3 days in 2012, when I saw their 30-yr celebration packages for 2026, I signed up. Seven nights and six days diving at a great package rate, with 14 dives “standard,” including a night dive and a 3-dive excursion. The trip was delightful. I’ve been diving >40 years but never got nitrox certified, and decided to do it for this trip. OF made it easy, routing me to the online instruction, then doing the follow-up hands-on and careful checking that I actually understood the online instruction when I was on-site.
I had a fabulous condo suite all to myself, and it was bigger than my apartment at home. Not smack on the water, but a 60-second stroll brought me to the shore. I actually closed off one of the two bathrooms just to avoid getting lost.
The dive package included a VIP Private Tour day, essentially a divemaster dedicated to me while the rest of the boat operated at 5 or 6 per divemaster. Delightful! I set it up for my first day, and Guillermo, who had handled my nitrox cert, was my guide for the day. Awesome … very knowledgeable guy, careful, and fun! All the OF staff are fabulous! Over the week, I dove with different combinations of probably 6-7 and would happily dive with any of them again. They are good on safety and on finding and pointing to items of interest underwater, and at conversing with divers on the boat while swapping tanks, and recording everyone’s dive time and depth. All of the dive staff — men and women alike — work hard, steadily, all day long, and never stopped being cheerful and watchful about divers and gear, including hustling to catch us if we had forgotten some gear on the boat. (Thanks!) Some people just left all their gear from one day to the next, and the staff washed/rinsed/hung, and returned it.
The diving was grand. With water temps around 87, I was very comfy with just a swimming suit and a t-shirt. The dive sites were typically good clear water, with interesting life: tarpon, sting rays, barracuda, triggerfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, wrasses, and so on, enough to keep me occupied seeking and photographing. (I really only care about the fish.) We usually saw a couple of lion fish per dive, some pretty large, but nowhere near the density I remember from 2012. Of 14 dives, I only went below 80 feet a few times, 104 feet at the very lowest, and the bulk of the time was in the 40-80 feet range. All my dives were 58-65 minutes long, and left me happy but wanting more.
Our 3-dive excursion day included 3 dives on the west side or west end of the south side. The wreck dive was an interesting change of pace, but it made for l-o-n-g boat rides for what I felt was the least interesting of all the dives. Given the chance to re-do, I’d consider swapping for a morning 2-tank and afternoon 2-tank on the east end … such good diving and easy rides there, even to the north side.
Last, I just loved the resort. I drove in from the airport, parked the car, and didn’t move it for a week. Everything I needed was there. The complementary breakfast buffet was great, and the same restaurant served awesome lunch/dinner whenever I needed it. Sitting in a shaded but open-air dining area and just watching the ocean or talking with other divers while downing great food made it a real vacation. The OF shop was open 7am-6pm, and always staffed by a knowledgeable and cheery person who would tell me which boat to go to and help with any question.
I’m already exploring when I can return. ;>

这次潜水体验棒极了。水温大约在87华氏度左右，我只穿了泳衣和T恤就觉得非常舒服。各个潜水点的水质通常都很清澈，还有各种有趣的海洋生物：大海鲢、黄貂鱼、梭鱼、扳机鱼、神仙鱼、蝴蝶鱼、鹦嘴鱼、隆头鱼等等，足以让我忙着寻找并拍摄它们。（其实我只对鱼感兴趣。）每次潜水我们通常都能看到几条狮子鱼，其中有些体型相当大，但数量远不及我记忆中2012年时的密度。在总共14次潜水中……我只下潜到80英尺以下几次，最低深度为104英尺，大部分时间都在40到80英尺的深度范围内。每次潜水时长均在58到65分钟左右，虽然很开心，但总觉得意犹未尽。
我们那天的潜水行程共安排了三次潜水，均在南侧的西边或西端区域。沉船潜水算是一种有趣的调剂，不过也因此导致了漫长的船程；在我看来，这次潜水其实是所有潜水项目中最无趣的一次。如果可以重新选择的话……我会考虑把行程安排为：早上在东区进行两次潜水，下午再进行两次潜水……那里的潜水条件极佳，交通也很便利，甚至去北区也很方便。
最后，我真的非常喜欢这家度假村。我从机场开车抵达后就把车停好，整整一周都没再动过。我需要的一切都在那里。免费的自助早餐很棒，还有那家餐厅，每当我需要时就能提供美味的午餐或晚餐。坐在阴凉但露天的用餐区里，一边享用美味佳肴，一边欣赏海景或与其他潜水员闲聊，真是一次完美的度假体验。OF商店的营业时间为早上7点到下午6点，店里总有一位知识渊博又热情友善的工作人员，他会告诉我该搭乘哪艘船，并解答我的任何疑问。
我已经在琢磨什么时候能再回来了呢。;>
