点评:Lovely place to visit with informative staff.
We were lucky to visit when the Welsh schools were back in school so had the place almost to ourselves! This did mean there weren’t many staff around, so there weren’t people to ask more about what we were seeing, that said, one lovely lady in the main hut very patiently and expertly answered our many questions, and knew so much about life in the Iron Age, she was a real highlight of our visit, and my niece learnt a lot.
My niece also enjoyed learning to make bread, she would have stayed there all day hand grinding the flour she loved it so much!
I downloaded their app which was brilliant, and told you more about each area, with a quiz as you went along, one of the best apps I’ve used, highly recommend if you want to learn more while you are there.
If I had any suggestions it would be to have more staff dotted about and in each hut to talk to visitors as if you weren’t someone who likes asking for info you could just wander about and not know what you are looking at. It was possibly like that as we visited out of holidays though and it was lunchtime so they had just gone to eat.
I also think staying in character would make it more real for the kids, ie having a costume on and not your everyday clothes, although that might have been as she was covering their lunch break! What makes it more special is seeing it as it would have been in Iron Age times, so staying in character would do that.
A peaceful and beautiful spot to visit on a sunny day. You get a real sense of what it could have been like.
Cafe was lovely too, cakes were to die for, but do check its open before you visit, cafe is not always fully open everyday, it was just drinks and cake when we went, which suited us, but if you were looking for something lunchier, you might be disappointed.
Staff in the shop were also smiley and friendly.
All in all I would visit again and definitely recommend it, just go with the expectation you need to ask the lovely staff what you are looking at, and they will be happy to oblige! And download the app!
