Train from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh

点评：On our last full day (2 February, 2026) in Inverness we decided to take the train to Kyle of Lochalsh and walk across the bridge to the Isle of Skye. We took the 8:55am train and had it almost to ourselves. It was on time, the personnel were helpful and patient, and the views along the route were worth the trip even without walking to Isle of Skye. (We had been a little concerned that we would not be able to see much from the train.)
Had lunch at Hector's Bothy Cafe and Bar -- very good fish and chips. Then started the walk.
Fairly easy walk, although VERY windy going across the bridge. Fabulous views from several different vantage points. Walked through the village of Kyleakin and up to the war memorial. Tried to walk to the Castle Moil ruins, but we had not planned well enough and decided we were not sure enough of the trail to attempt it.
We took the last train (17:13) back to Inverness, which meant it was dark most of the way. (Winter -- early sunset.) In retrospect, we probably could have walked across the bridge, seen the war memorial, left off the Castle Moil ruins entirely, walked back to Kyle of Lochalsh, bought a takeway lunch to take onto the train and caught the 13:46 train back to Inverness, which would have been more scenic. A summer trip would not have this disadvantage.
