点评:We visited this beautiful gallery/ museum on a Friday. It was fully open, apart from the older sculpture studio building which is under renovation.
The main building is a striking modern design, purpose built. Entry 10 Euros, 6.50 for over 65s. Inside were two contemporary exhibitions, but the main event is an exhibition of Miro's sketches, preparatory work and inspiration for his paintings and sculpture. It’s a fascinating insight into how natural found objects inspired his unique work. Text and timelines (with translation in English) outline the artist's life. There are a few finished pieces, but if you want to see more of his finished work nearby, you’ll have to head to Soller train station.
The highlight of the trip is Miro's studio in the colourful 50s building above the main gallery. It is as if Miro has just left the studio and is about to return. His materials and unfinished canvases are scattered across the room. It takes some time to absorb all the details.
We got to the exhibition on a number 4 bus from the city centre to the Marivent stop. It was then a short walk up hill. On the way back to the bus stop we noticed a bonus - a free to enter sculpture garden in the grounds of a palace. Look for the big archway entrance to Palacio de Marivent on the main road (Avinguda de Joan Miro). It’s a shady green park, lots of seating and dotted with Miro bronzes. A perfect way to finish your trip. The bus fare (just tap on with a debit card) is about £2 back to the city centre.
