Recommended Funicular to see the Castle
奥登瓦尔德山缆车的点评
点评：The funicular is included with the the ticket to enter Heidelberg Castle and adds value to the experience because otherwise it would be a decent climb to where the castle sits in Heidelberg. This also made our day trip from Stuttgart very efficient so we could quickly access the castle and do some sightseeing. The ticket includes entry for the German Pharmacy Museum, Heidelberg Castle Courtyard, and big wine barrel so make sure to keep your ticket handy for staff to check.
To get here we took the bus from Heidelberg Main Station to the Kornmarkt area. The funicular is a short walk away from the square and there is a bus stop right outside the entrance as well. We bought tickets when we arrived in Heidelberg at the Tourist Information Office outside the train station and they gave us detailed instructions how to get to the funicular. You can buy tickets for Heidelberg Castle as well as go to different heights on the hill but the Heidelberg castle area was enough for us and fit wit our plans. The tickets cost 11 Euros for adults and there are reduced fairs for seniors and students at 5.5 Euros.
We liked buying the ticket at the tourist office because we did not have to line up at the funicular station like everyone else to buy tickets. The funicular tram arrived pretty quickly and we boarded right away but had to wait longer than expected for the other passengers to buy their tickets and board. We boarded the front car going up but would actually recommend boarding the downward facing car both ways because there is not much to see going up because of where the driver sits but you can get some very good views of Heidelberg below.
