点评:Stanway House and gardens is off the beaten track, but once you are there, it is so interesting. The house itself is Jacobean and one is able to wander at leisure through the entire area. Audio guides are supplied covering each room and items of any significant interest are numbered and these can be found on the touch dial giving full information on the particular item.
I did not venture up the steep stairs to the bedrooms as it was such a blazingly hot day but I was able to sit in a cool room to watch a video covering the fully restored working mill producing flour from locally grown wheat. Visitors can watch the whole process and purchase a bag of flour to take home.
There is a huge fountain to the rear of the property which is in excess of 300 ft. and is the tallest gravity fountain in the world, the tallest garden fountain in the world and the tallest fountain in Britain. There is also fountain operates at 2.45 pm and 4.00 pm for half an hour.
There is also a Gatehouse which was built around 1620 and this is decorated with scallop shells, which
are the emblem of the Tracy family, which is still used for house guests.
Afternoon tea was available with a delightful selection of scones and cakes.
A well worthwhile visit.
