Audley End House and Gardens的点评
点评：So much here for lovers of art in all its forms, including attractively the built environment.
After a pleasant stroll from the train station it was wonderful turning onto Spring Hill and crossing Adam Bridge over the Cam and getting first gorgeous vistas of the beautiful mansion.
It was a fabulous visit and the Guides throughout were great, welcoming and readily answering queries.
It was fascinating to learn that the current edifice is only around one third of the original and that its antecedent was an Abbey suppressed in 1538.
An ample Library is well stocked with multitudes of volumes and contains valuable collections. It was interesting to pass along the service gallery linking the north and south wings. It’s known as the Coal Gallery and contains a bunker of coal; an essential during the past cold winters, for use in bedroom fires and heating water.
Strolling around the grounds on a blue sky morning was delightful, as was a visit to the remarkable Stables.
