Not exactly the visit that I had planned.
Audley End House and Gardens的点评
点评：Having been to many open air concerts in the grounds of Audley End House, I was curious to see the House itself. It did not disappoint...well, only a little! On the day that I visited there was a shortage of volunteers to man each room in the House, so all the bedrooms were closed. This was a great disappointment to me, as I wanted especially to see the Howard bedroom with its magnificent bed. However, the rest of the rooms in the House were spectacular, with their beautiful panelling, the wonderful portraits of the family and other notable people, and the excellent gardens and walks in the grounds.
I was also slightly disappointed in the Tea Rooms in the House. The menu is unappealing, and my order was served in two parts well apart, so that my chips which came first were cold by the time the bap had been prepared. On asking for this to be corrected, the staff were very defensive and offhand.
So, all in all, not quite the visit that I had envisaged, but I enjoyed most of it and it was worth the effort of staying locally (Saffron Walden) to avoid a long journey on the day of my visit.
