点评:Skip York and go straight to Ogunquit!
York's parking regulations makes the town feel punitive, anti-visitor, and designed to turn confusion into revenue. I lived in York for 10 years and was familiar with the old meter-head system. In the winter, the meter heads were removed, so when I parked at Short Sands in June and didn’t see individual meter heads, I mistakenly thought the meters had not been installed yet for the season.
That honest mistake became a $78 ticket.
When I went to pay the $50 ticket (which was already outrageous) York PD had added another $25 because it was more than 10 days later — not 30 days, 10 days. Then they added another $3 processing fee just to pay it. When I looked for an appeal option, York’s appeal window is apparently only 24 hours, which is ridiculous for a beach parking ticket.
So a confusing parking-system change turned into a $78 penalty.
York is a wealthy tourist town charging $4/hour to park at the beach. Visitors should not be hit with steep fines, short appeal windows, late fees after only 10 days, and extra processing fees because the town changed the parking system. Not to mention the vulturous meter maids that circle the parking areas in York round the clock (when I lived there everyone referred to them as rent-a-cops as York literally brings in an army of ticket writers just for the summer months).
If you visit York Beach, be warned: even if you don’t see individual meters, look for a kiosk or app payment system immediately. Better yet, pay the nice folks with private parking lots and stay out of York's egregious parking system or avoid the town all together. Ogunquit is much better and the parking is pleasant and easy.
