点评：Just 100 meters from Windsor Castle is the important 1689 building referred to as Windsor Guildhall. It is a two-story structure that once held the offices of the mayor and bailiffs. In the covered area once held the corn markets of Windsor.
Today, the hall is the home of a museum that was created in 2011. Upstairs is where Prince Charles and Camilla Parke Bowles were married in 2005. It was also in that year that Sir Elton John and David furnish held a same sex ceremony at Guildhall.
The “free” museum is not very large, but interesting nonetheless. There are authentic artifacts and historical pictures to be seen. The docents are quite interesting and friendly. For a nominal fee of 5 Pounds, they are glad to take you upstairs to see where all the action takes place.
The outside covered area is a good spot to watch the Royal Guards march up and back from Windsor Castle on selected week days. Next to the Guildhall is an interesting restaurant that is “slanted” to a large degree to one side.
On the opposite side of the street is the comfortable 4-Star Castle Hotel. We loved our 3-night stay and highly recommend staying in Windsor village versus leaving after seeing the Castle.
Just north of Windsor Castle is the delightful village of Eton, home to Eton College. There are a number of worthy cafés and stores along High Street.
Just south of town, in walking distance, is the famous Long Walk. Queen Anne in 1710 made a road for her coaches. The walk extends out for about 3 miles to an 1829 bronze statue of King George III. You may be lucky like us to see the famous Red Deer.
