点评：Elephant falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in Meghalaya, which is located in Upper Shillong city of East Kashi Hills district. the name Elephant Falls was given by the british due to a rock near the falls that resembled an elephant, which was destroyed in an earthquake in 1897, but the name lives on. Actually the local name of Elephant falls is Kshaid Lai Pateng, which translates to the three levels over which the water plunges.
The water fall is the result of a mountain stream that drops over multiple levels, scything through the forested slope. The water fall is a three tiered waterfall cascading down from over 220 feet. The first section is a small but picturesque waterfall. The Second section features a larger waterfall plunging into a turquoise pool below. The third section is the tallest one and offering a spectacular view with crystal clear water.
There is clear walkway which is railed and begin at the head of the falls and continue to the bottom, ensuring that you go on right path and covers all three levels of the fall. The pool at the bottom near the third fall is a spot where you can wade into the clear water at knee level.
