点评:This is the second year my wife and I have walked a small portion of the Camino and this is the second year it's been a great experience. Last year, we started 113km from Santiago in Sarria and walked to Santiago. This year we started 243km out in Ponferrada and hiked to Sarria. This year's walk was a bit more demanding with a 3300ft vertical gain one day, but it was nothing that a retired college professor with a good pair of hiking shoes couldn't handle.
For both sections, the scenery was gorgeous, walking though small Spanish towns with 800 year old stone churches. This year, we got to our stopping point a little late twice because we had to stop every 10 minutes to gape at the jaw-dropping views.
Both years we walked in April and didn't see all the crowded trails that we heard about from people. There concerns about the weather, but between both years, we got serious rain only one day and the temperature was very comfortable.
A good amount of the credit for the enjoyment goes to Paul from Walks in Spain. He sets of everything from hotel reservations to transfers at the start and end of the walk. You get detailed maps and even advice on where to eat. All you have to do is hike and enjoy the walk. Both years there was some glitch in the train system and each year Paul handled the problem. The sleeping quarters he provided were first rate and unique. Last year, we spent the last night in a converted monastery. This year, one night we spent in a hiker youth hostel combined with a first class hotel. We had a "pilgrims dinner" and met hikers of all ages and nationalities. If you're looking for a great vacation that involves some wonderful walking, try looking up Walks In Spain. (www.walksinspain.com)

(www.walksinspain.com)
