点评:This place is incredible and somewhere that all Australians should visit. My tips are as follows:
1. It is about one hour of dirt road to get into the national park - so be prepared for a bumpy ride. You don't need a 4WD, although if there has been rain then they will close the road. I think there are 1 day private tours that leave from Mildura if you are really worried about dirt roads but we managed fine.
2. We joined the National Parks run sunset tour. It was amazing. The colours on the Lunette changed as the sun went down and the sunset over the lake was phenomenal. You will need to join a tour (either parks or a private one) in order to enter the Lunette. This is because they are trying to limit the potential damage to the site and to stop people stealing or disturbing the ancient parts of the site. The information from the tour makes all the difference anyway, otherwise it is hard to know what you are looking at other than a pretty landscape. The private tours seemed to be more expensive - but I thought the National Park tour was exceptional.
3. The parks tour leave from outside the information centre. You meet the guide at the centre and then drive your own car to the Lunette site (about 10 mins) and then walk into the Lunette with your guide. There is plenty of time to take photos and walk and explore - well balanced with the information our guide gave us.
4. We stayed at the Shearers shed. It is directly next to the visitors centre. It was fantastic. The room, kitchen and bathrooms were clean and the Parks officers even delivered us wood so we could enjoy a bonfire at night. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need (other than a tea towel).
5. 2 nights was enough for us. After we did the sunset tour day 1, then enjoyed the drive around the park (about 3.5 hours) We loved seeing the emu and kangaroo race from the window.
6. Make sure you take time to read everything in the visitors centre. This is where you will appreciate the significance of this place in terms of Aboriginal history. There is very little information on the drive around the park, with the focus more on the early colonists. (I would love to see some more information signs on the way around about the Aboriginal history - Mungo is not even an Aboriginal name!)
