点评:After Mrs Bettner died in 1928 My grandparents bought the house from her son Robert Bettner.
It had been boarded up for ten years. Remember
these were the Depression years.
This was the McDavid family home from 1938 to 1973.
They had one daughter and two sons. I spent many a weekend playing in this house, along with my siblings, during the 1950s.
Unknown facts; in WW2 my Uncle George Jerry McDavid, was on the Beach at Normandy and fought his way through France, Germany, all the way to the Concentration Camps. He was never the same after that experience.
My father Daniel Leon grew up in the house and my parents were married there. I am the only one of 14 grandchildren to have been christened in the White French room, off the front entrance. There are a lot of family stories about the house. I could write a book about the McDavid family History that spans back to 1720 in America. To us it was just home.
As the namesake of Rena Derry McDavid, I hope that people continue to enjoy visits there. This was her dying wish, that the house would be enjoyed by future generations. It was always a happy home, as I recall.
I would write more, as all the major players have long passed, but I respect that fact that the McDavid family prefers to keep a low profile. But we are still around, living in many States now. Once in awhile some of us show up there, just to reminisce about different times.
