Golden Beach Has Lost Its Charm

点评：We chose Thassos based on a glowing recommendation from friends, and while our hotel is fantastic, Golden Beach was a massive disappointment. Our friends remembered a pristine, wide stretch of golden sand and beautiful waters, but that version of the beach is long gone. Today, the area is heavily overdeveloped with apartments and eateries, and it looks like the construction rubble and trash were simply dumped right onto the sand.
What little beach remains is packed tight with hundreds of rental sunbeds. The tiny, open patches are crammed with people trying to avoid the rental fees, making it feel overcrowded even in early June—well before the peak European school holidays when locals say the area gets absolutely overwhelmed. To make matters worse, one end of the beach is now dominated by tacky souvenir shops, loud arcade games, and noisy rental quad bikes. Ultimately, it was incredibly difficult to find any of the authentic Greek culture we were looking forward to. It’s a real shame to see another once-beautiful destination ruined by unchecked tourism and greed.
