What a thoroughly fabulous day out
Grimsthorpe Castle的点评
点评：My wife and I, both senior citizens, made the one hour and twenty minute journey from Leicester to visit this castle, and it was absolutely worth the trip. As National Trust and English Heritage members, we first looked for somewhere run by either organisation, but having already visited most places within a reasonable distance, we turned to Google Maps for inspiration. That’s when we came across this gem.
I knew we’d have to pay for entry, but I didn’t mind if it offered something different—and the website certainly suggested it would. We booked two tickets online at £16 each, including a Blue Light discount. The added bonus was discovering that Bridgerton had been filmed here, which I knew would make the visit even more enjoyable for my wife.
The weather was perfect, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we’d chosen well. We joined the free guided tour, which was absolutely fascinating. I’d strongly recommend booking onto it at the ticket booth when you arrive—you’ll be captivated by the staff member’s knowledge and storytelling as they bring the castle’s history to life.
The castle is stunning inside and out, and the grounds and gardens are equally beautiful. We spent around four hours exploring and enjoyed every moment. It was excellent value for money and a thoroughly memorable day out.
A little tip—especially for Bridgerton fans: take a selfie with the castle behind you (avoid sunglasses and hats), then run the photo through an AI tool and ask it to dress you in Bridgerton style clothing. The results are amazing.
