点评:We visited this mysterious “guna caves” during our recent visit to Kodaikanal (April’26).
More than anything it was our curiosity which made us to visit here.
The Guna Caves which were initially known as the Devil's Kitchen, is located in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu,
It is located on the Moir Point Road about 10 kilometres from Kodaikanal.
The location got its name as “Guna Caves” after it was featured in the 1992 film “Gunaa” starring Kamal Haasan
Though we may not be able to enter them for safety reasons, we can view the caves from a safe distance.
The caves rest in an area covered with Shola trees and grass.
The matted and twisted sets of roots of these trees are spread across the area which is a scene of attraction for the travellers.
These twisted roots serve as great backdrop to capture pictures.
We can also view the deep & narrow caves which are now barricaded and grilled with iron bars for safety reasons.
As per history an American by name Mr B. S. Ward first discovered this place in 1821.
It is believed that the Pandavas stayed in these caves and cooked their meals.
There have been unexpected & mysterious deaths in these caves without the body being retrieved
From the early 2000s until 2016, the cave was closed to the public due to increasing disappearances.
As of police records in 2016, the holes in the cave have caused the death of at least 16 people who attempted to explore the cave.
The mystery surrounding these caves has made it more attractive to the travellers.
