Fishing vs Catching on the Kenai

点评：I fished two full days for trout with Kenai River Trout Anglers in early August. There were a number of salmon in the river, but this was not the peak season for trout. The first day was a shared boat with three other anglers, and we fished a section above the Kenai NWR. The next day, I had a private boat and fished the section of the Kenai River immediately below where I fished the previous day within the refuge. The first day was very poor fishing and we only netted a total of 3 trout, none larger than 14 inches. The second day was fantastic fishing, and I caught 25 to 30 trout with rainbow trout and dolly varden up to 24 inches in length. The guide on my second day, Brandon, was the best fishing guide I have ever had. His knowledge of the river was incredible. For example, he recommended that we put on at 6am to beat other guides to the first hole. Sure enough, less than 10 minutes after we claimed that outstanding site, the next guide boat drifted by. Brandon was always attentive to my line frequently changing the bead, setting height of the indicator and weight to optimize the presentation to the trout. I never would have had such an outstanding day without the expertise of Brandon. I plan to return for another trip.
