点评:Visited the Hanging Temple in September 2025. It’s among the more popular attractions in Shanxi because of the stunning image and unique nature of a temple etched onto a cliffside. Came here after visiting the nearby Yingxian Wooden Pagoda through private buses plying the route between them. The buses drop us off at a welcome center for the overall Mount Heng tourist attraction. It’s far from the Hanging Temple itself - I had to take a shuttle bus which took up to an hour.
Even upon reaching the temple’s actual grounds there was a further 60 - 90 minute queue to get into the temple itself. Once in, we were hurried along a preordained path. Naturally the temple is quite small, so it’s crowded and difficult to take photos. Nevertheless it’s interesting to look at, both from the ground level (where it’s against a backdrop of flowers at the right time of year) and as from the temple itself. Otherwise, there’s virtually no other interesting sights in the area, although there are some hawkers and peddlers set up nearby, presumably because of how popular the place was. Overall a good visit, though one must be willing to spend nearly a whole day.
