点评:For years we went to Thredbo and loved it, but we now prefer Perisher.
We were won over by the greater variety of slopes. It’s a much larger ski resort with something like double the number of trails.
For families or groups with a big range of skiing ability and interest, it works really well. There is a good combination of long, steep runs, easier slopes, challenging terrain parks, all with beautiful scenery.
Trails are reasonably well-marked (although signage for hazards is really bad). It’s easy to get all over the mountain although it’s fair to say that getting between the various connected areas of Perisher, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes and Guthega can involve a lot of tedious traversing.
The Ski Tube makes Blue Cow very accessible if you don’t want to ski across to it.
Perisher does have its disadvantages, the main one being the lack of a village. This is not a problem if you’re staying at a lodge that provides meals and has a good community atmosphere but if not, you might miss having a Thredbo-like village vibe.
There are a couple of great apres-ski bars at Perisher. The Man is good for watching sport but my favourite is The White Spider at the Eiger Hotel.
The other disadvantage is the Perisher car park which is free for day-parking but it’s for day use only - no overnighting. If you’re staying at Perisher, you have to leave your car at the Bullocks Flats base and get the Ski Tube up.
TIP: If you’re thinking of spending longer than a week at Perisher, its worth considering the annual Epic Ski Pass but it really depends when you buy it. The price increases, the closer you get to the start of the ski season and the 2024 pass is already on sale. We find it works for us but we buy it very early. We have also worked out that we break even as long as we are skiing somewhere around the 5 - 7 days in the year. Less than that, and its not worth it. The pass is linked with overseas resorts like Whistler and Vail and allows you to pass some cost-savings on to friends, under the ‘buddy' scheme (although read the rules closely on this as it’s not straightforward). We also add on the ski-tube option to cover the cost of the train.
