点评:A very good day out at reasonable cost - not very busy as the weather forecast was pretty horrible but we got away with thunder, a couple of short sharp downpours with warm sun in between.
The gardens are expansive (joined an afternoon tour by one of the volunteers which was very good, telling how they have been managed over the years) as well as talking to those who were working in the gardens on behalf of English Heritage.
Both formal planting and woodland with plenty of space for children to run around as well as a large glen where they can explore and not escape!
The castle guides were very knowledgeable and happy to share about the history of the buildings as well as the famous inhabitants and visitors.
The tearoom in the garden serves ‘snacks’ whereas the tearoom in the castle itself has the added options of soup and jacket potatoes etc.
