点评:I was expecting to love this place, but came away feeling less than inspired. To be fair the weather didn't help as we ended up sheltering under a cafe umbrella for ages when the heavens opened.
The 'castle' is far more manor house but that's because it was lived in. The Lord Warden's apartments were open to view and the staff members running the stairs and explaining the rooms were excellent. Information on the Duke of Wellington was educational and sometimes surprising.
Gardens are well extremely well maintained with a wide range of borders, flowers and veg growing. However, I would have gotten more enjoyment without getting soaked / viewing it from under a brolly.
Having visited Deal Castle the day before, the underground Walmer bookshop was interesting as a direct comparison to the building of these fortifications.
