Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum的点评
点评：We visited the gardens years ago, but were staying in one of the estate's holiday cottages and wanted to go again. So glad we did - in fact, we went twice in a fortnight, which was interesting in itself as we could see how some of the plants in the garden had progressed even in the space of about ten days. We loved the bog garden, and found the Wild Origin Garden especially interesting. The Sensory Garden was a blaze of colour and scent, and we spent lots of time there, taking photos of the blooms and just enjoying every angle. The private garden was open for a small additional fee and it was definitely worth it - the borders were amazing. The Arboretum was a great place to stretch our legs on a warm day, and we were impressed by how well waymarked it was. Do visit the church - it's beautiful, and the kneelers are phenomenal.
We had a sandwich lunch at the Tea Rooms on one visit, and the food was fresh and tasty; the staff were very friendly and helpful. The staff at the entrance kiosk were also very welcoming, and on our first visit the lady gave us a lot of information about local attractions which we found very useful - she really went the extra mile.
Suitable for families - there is a lot to see, and a lot of the estate would be buggy-friendly (and is marked as such). You'd need at least half a day to get the best out of it, I would say. Lots of parking, and picnic areas are also available.
