点评:We did the mist trail up as 2 adults and a 13 / 15 year old To the top of Nevada falls and then looping back with the John Muir trail to go a bit easier on the knees which took a pounding on the way up!
Being mid August the temperatures were hitting 38/39 so we set out straight from our base at Curry village at 6am which was a pleasant temperature with only the last hour or so starting to feel the heat (outside of the sweat from the walk!) as we were working with the shade on our side.
The trail needs some decent walking shoes or sandals and is mainly gravel / dust and some big steep granite steps (600 on the way up). In the way down we find it slippy on the dust with us slipping our way down on our worn in grips and fashion trainers that in hindsight weren’t the best choice but got us there!
The trail has a couple of points for toilets, at the Vernham falls footbridge (and a water top up) then again near the Nevada falls. Outside of that you need to ensure you carry enough water for the duration and I’d recommend in a hot day you double what you need. We didn’t have big enough water bottles and the prices in the village were ridiculous so ended up buying a large apple juice to use as an extra container. We aren’t seasoned hikers! I’d also recommend a small towel for the top as when we went there were people wading and dunking in the river water at the top before the falls which seemed a nice end to the summit - we popped our feet in and it cooled off their weariness quickly!
All in all the trip took us 5.5 hours for the full loop including the extra couple of kilometres from the campground. The trail leaflets all state “hard” and I’d say that is purely elevation and if you are crazy enough to try to start it once the sun is fully up. We couldn’t quite believe how many people were starting the ascent at eleven as we smugly passed them at the vernham falls bridge down to the bottom and the crowds were big.
If you want to do a hike that feels like Disney climb later and climb sweaty (or be prepared to duck out early) if you want a handful of you making your way up start it before sunrise.
Amazing experience.
