One of the best cheese shops in France; Huge Selection; Terrific Service
Cheese Shop Alain Hess的点评
点评：Their collection of cheeses is immense. And I have been to lots of fromageries in France.
Hess had most of my favorites (Langres and Livort in particular). I also noticed that every restaurant we went to that had cheese for dessert …which was all of them…had cheese from Hess.
The fellow who helped us at the shop, both times I went there, was from the US (Atlanta , and i think he said his folks were French) so getting good explanations of some of the cheeses i was not familiar with was easy, but I found most of the staff spoke good English as well. There are so many cheeses, so its hard to know what each is like without a good explanation.
Prices were reasonable and , because I was buying other cheeses, they were able to give me a taste of one I had never tried…but glad I did taste it as it was too plain for me! ( I saw some reviews that complained about getting a sample, but keep in mind you can only get a sample from the cheeses that are already open and come in a larger wheel where they cut you a slice by the kilo. They cannot give you a taste of some of the smaller, individual, cheeses, like Langres (which btw is a wonderful , strong taste and smell, soft cheese)
Highly recommend visiting the shop. But beware…once you walk through the door…the smell will be intoxicating and its going to be hard to leave without buying a lot.
