点评:Easily one of the best trips I've taken. I am an American working and living in Kuwait and had a 4 day break. I decided to spend that time in Beirut because the flight is just over two hours and they were at convenient times. I stayed in Hamra. It's old and gritty, maybe even a little run down but the cultural experience is all there and I never felt like I was in danger. The people were warm, welcoming and friendly. Occasionally me only speaking english was a small barrier but most people speak it conversationally which is amazing because it's their 3rd language. The pubs, food and century old shops are amazing. Ferdinand, Neighbors Pub and Salon Beyrouth were all fantastic. Everything is walking distance. Just north is the Corniche which makes for an absolutely wonderful walk. The whole experience was completely opposite of what I was taught to believe. Tea, coffee and shisha shops are everywhere. I was half expecting violent streets, explosions, and even wondered if I'd be kidnapped. The truth is it's safer than the 40 most dangerous US cities. People didn't care where I was from. They were too busy living their lives, raising their children and having fun. Three nights in a row I stumbled back to my hotel at 2am and never once had an issue or felt threatened. Everyone else was stumbling too. I could live here so I will definitely be back soon.
