点评:Three of us went into the Medina without a guide or your group. I felt comfortable as a well traveled male to go alone and my two friends were women.
They peeled off a left early but only after a local Guy attached himself to us like Velcro and kept offering his ‘guide services’.
He continued to follow me after they left: into shops, into cafes… no matter what I said, including ‘f;ck off and leave me alone!!’ And literally shouting at him in the middle of a square didn’t deter him.
He would t go away. He finally said after dogging me for two very long hours, ‘I’m not leaving until you pay me.’
I then went and found a tour group and told the guide ‘this guy won’t stop harassing me for two very long hours no matter what I say. I am now feeling threatened and unsafe.’ He immediately invited me to join the group after which Velcro man left.
I have never encountered anything so extreme in an Arabic country. It’s a different culture and yes they can be verbally aggressive hustlers, but this went to intimidation and safety issues.
My warning: the Moroccan police are aware, but don’t really care. I never saw an officer in this busy area. Tons of tourists but NO police presence.
So go knowing your physical safety may be fine, but unwanted extremely aggressive locals can ruin your lovely experience and it can be very intimidating.
