点评:Well, everyone who has written a review about the Piton des Neiges hike has said that it’s tough.
It is tough from the onset, so my recommendation is to do some kind of training (hiking, trail running/walking) and make sure you’re equipped with proper shoes, food and water and poles are also a good idea. Being ‘gym fit’ is not enough.
We stayed the night at the refuge. It’s not a resort or hotel, so get that into your heads. It’s a bit rough and the beds are not comfortable, but it was a relief to arrive there and have a drink and tasty (and abundant) food. The accompanying hot sauce was delicious!
In the middle of the night hikers were getting ready to do the last part of the trip, up to the peak at over 3000 metres. Not being able to sleep, we left for the 2-hour hike to watch the sunrise.
Totally worth it.
The descent back to the refuge was ok. We had breakfast and then got ready to head down to the car. That was thé worst part.
Loose rocks underfoot, steep descents that just seemed endless. Again, totally doable and great personal challenge, but my knees were sore and shaking at the end!
