点评：It feels strange to review a magnificent historical site like this, but it was an absolute must-visit while we were in the area, having travelled miles from home.
We skipped the paid entry to the main fort and instead followed the wall trail on foot for about an hour. The terrain is extremely hilly, but the effort is rewarded with breathtaking views. Standing there, you can truly appreciate the immense labour that went into building this colossal structure and imagine yourself as a Roman sentinel, gazing out over the same dramatic landscape. It’s a profoundly special experience.
I’m grateful that the site is so carefully preserved, ensuring future generations can enjoy it too. It’s dog-friendly, but be mindful of grazing sheep and keep pets under control.
Visiting in October was perhaps our only misstep—the wind was relentless, with cold gusts hitting like slaps to the face. But if you can tough it out, you’ll walk away knowing you’ve experienced a phenomenal piece of history. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone with mobility issues; the steep, uneven ground is genuinely breath-taking (in every sense).
