点评：Popped into SkyeSkynes, the only working tannery in Scotland (and I believe only one of two in UK). One of the staff joined us as we peered into the open tannery. An old building with old equipment, doing an age old process by hand, and doing it naturally (without chemicals). She gave us a “tour” (2 rooms) the was so informative. The trade is almost dead and she was so enthusiastic it was riveting to listen to. Their small shop above the tannery has so fine samples of different sheep skins for purchase. I bought one, I could not resist. The view from the building was incredible, even in the rain. The owner also makes marbled leather using ink and leather that is inspired by the surroundings. These are then meticulously hand produced into bags and wallets. It’s expensive but worth it to support a local trade trying to keep and ancient trade alive.
