点评:We found a visit to the birthplace of pyramids constructed over 4500 years ago pre-dating the famous Giza Pyramids a humbling experience. Entrance to the Dahshur site is 200LE per person plus 25 LE for a car. This gives you the opportunity to visit the Bent Pyramid the precursor to the nearby Red Pyramid. Initially built at a very steep incline for 2/3rds of its height, the top portion becomes much shallower, after fears were raised about its stability. There is a walk inside the chambers available but we did not go inside after our guide indicated the walk inside was difficult but the view close up outside is impressive and it retains much of its original coating unlike other pyramids in the region.
There are also views from here of the Black Pyramid but this is not open to the public due to it poor condition.
We did visit the nearby Red Pyramid and undertook the walk inside which was rewarding. Quite a steep climb to the entrance then a steep decent for around 80m crouched fairly low before entering the first tall chamber. A climb up a wooden staircase follows before reaching two further burial chambers.
The visitor numbers to this site are light and without the massive crowds seen at Giza. There are none of the tourist trappings here unlike Giza so it provides visitors with a unique, peaceful and lifetime memorable experience.
A visit needs a couple of hours to do it justice.
