点评：Our stay at Marakele National Park was extremely disappointing and fell well below the standard we expected.
We chose Marakele specifically to give our grandchildren a memorable African wildlife experience before they leave the country. Unfortunately, a series of service, maintenance and safety failures significantly compromised our visit.
The check-in and check-out times for the tented chalet were excessively restrictive. Access was only available after 15:00, and we were required to vacate the chalet by 10:00 the following morning. During our stay, the electricity repeatedly failed while we were trying to cook, and the lamp in our room had no bulb. These basic maintenance and service issues should have been identified and resolved before the accommodation was made available to guests.
The most serious concern involved the gate to the wildlife area. The intercom was not functioning, and reception instructed us to leave our vehicle, open the gate manually, drive through, and then exit the vehicle again to close it. This instruction was wholly inappropriate and created an unnecessary safety risk, particularly because the signage at the gate clearly states that visitors must not leave their vehicles.
We were further informed that the gate had apparently been malfunctioning for some time and that visitors were expected to operate it manually. If this is correct, it is unacceptable that a known fault in a wildlife area was allowed to continue without an effective and safe solution. Visitors should never be placed in a position where they must choose between following the park’s safety instructions and following instructions from reception that directly contradict them.
When we raised these legitimate safety concerns, the receptionist repeatedly laughed instead of treating the matter seriously. This conduct was unprofessional, dismissive and entirely inappropriate, particularly given the potential danger involved.
We paid a significant amount for this experience, but our visit was substantially compromised. Most importantly, our grandchildren left without having the wildlife experience we had specifically planned and paid for. The combination of restrictive access times, repeated electricity failures, inadequate maintenance, the unsafe gate procedure and the dismissive response from staff made our stay deeply disappointing.
